Meet St. Teresa of Avila! St. Teresa of Avila (October 15th) Patron of: those in religious orders, lacemakers, the sick, Spain St. Teresa of Avila, Carmelite reformer and first female Doctor of the Church is one of the most beloved women of the Catholic Church. Born in 16th century Spain, Teresa lived a life of humor, prayer and mission as she worked towards reform. Her book, "The Interior Castle" is still widely read today, as St. Teresa is considered one of the great contemplative mystics of the Church. Teach your children about God's love of humor! Introduce the story of St. Teresa of Avila using the educational insert in the box. Encourage children to consider their ideas about God. Can God have a sense of humor? Does having faith mean being serious all the time (hint: definitely not!). St. Teresa of Avila is also a great Saint to teach children about the different ways we can pray. A fantastic introductory Saint for contemplative prayer!
